Wireless Event
to Celebrate, Demonstrate Wireless Networking
Wireless Dayton Days, an event to celebrate and demonstrate
the new Wireless Downtown Dayton Network, takes place
on Friday and Saturday, April 29 & 30. The Wireless
Dayton Days event is free to the public and takes place
in the first floor South Atrium and adjoining rooms
in the Ponitz Center (Building 12) of Sinclair Community
College.
The local non-profit organization Dayton Microcomputer
Association, Inc., is producing the event which takes
place on Friday (Arbor Day) from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
and Saturday, March 30, from 10 AM to 6 PM.
The event is designed to celebrate the entire downtown
Dayton area becoming a free wireless hotzone where individuals
can access the Internet with a wireless-enabled device.
The Downtown Dayton Network is the result of a unique
government-business partnership which includes the City
of Dayton, HarborLink Ltd., P&R Communications and
the Internet Service Provider DoNet.
The Wireless Dayton Days event offers many features
which are designed to introduce either computer or Personal
Digital Assistant (PDA) wireless-enabled users, or those
wanting information about wireless networks, to the
free downtown network which is online now.
Upon arriving, a volunteer mentor will be matched one-on-one
with an attending individual and their wireless-enabled
PDA or laptop computer and will be shown how to connect
and disconnect from Downtown Dayton’s free wireless
network.
There will also be a mini-trade show offering some
options for wireless network access; there will be seminars
including many facilitated by Sinclair College Instructors;
a booklet will be provided which helps users access
free wireless networks after the event and in other
locales; and a web site (www.wirelessdaytondays.org)
offers additional follow-up information about the event
as well as wireless networking in general.
Individuals and businesses seeking more information
about Wireless Dayton Days may access the event’s
